Matrix and Types of Matrices


  • Matrix : A rectangular arrangement of real (or) complex numbers (or) functions is called a matrix. The horizontal lines are called Rows and the vertical lines are called columns. The numbers of the matrix are called elements on entries.
  • If a matrix has m rows and n columns, then the order of the matrix is m × n.
  • The general form A = [aij]m × n matrix is \tt \begin{bmatrix}a_{11} & a_{12}&a_{13} &.....&a_{1n}\\a_{21} & a_{22}&a_{23} &.....&a_{2n} \\a_{31} & a_{32}&a_{33} &.....&a_{3n} \\.... & ....&.... &.....&....\\.... & ....&.... &.....&....\\a_{m1} & a_{m2}&a_{m3} &.....&a_{mn}\end{bmatrix}
  •  If a matrix has mn elements, the possible orders are m × n (or) n × m.
