Disorders of muscular and skeletal system - myasthenia gravis, tetany, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, osteoporosis, gout


  • Myasthenia gravis is an auto immune disorder damaging neuro muscular junction which leads to fatigue and paralysis
  • Muscular dystrophy is associated with dys function that is due to lack of mutation in the largest gene known as ‘dys’ (2.4 Mbp) to give a protein dystrophin.
  • Osteoporosis leads to the loss of fibres and minerals is bone due to hormones like calcitonin, parathormone, sex hormones (or) due to deficiency of calcium and vitamin D.
  • Inflammation of joints – Arthritis (4 types)
    (i) RA [ Rhematoid arthritis] – autoimmune disorder, inflammation of synovial membrane –Extremely painful
    (ii) Gouty arthritis – Excess formation of uric acid in synovial joint – osteo arthritis – damage in articular cartilage; degenerative joint disease that affects joints of knee, spine and hands.
